Stipol – AF is an effective dispersion coating based on artificial resins for the protection of deciduous and coniferous wood species against cracking, splintering and frost, forming a thin, elastic film that adheres well to the surface. It is extremely effective in protecting the end-grain of tree logs and the end-grain of cut/sawn wood against cracking during natural or artificial drying of wood.
Stipol – AF is designed to:
- to protect the end-grain of tree logs of deciduous and coniferous logs during storage and air-drying,
- to protect the end-grain of cut/sawn deciduous and coniferous wood during storage and air-drying,
- to protect the end-grain of cut/sawn deciduous and coniferous logs during kiln-drying,
- other situations where wood is to be protected against premature drying, cracking and splintering, or attack by fungi and insects from the end-grain of the tree logs;
Properties of Stipol – AF:
- Stipol – AF forms a thin, elastic film on the coated part of the wood, which adheres well to the surface;
- protects the wood against the ingress of fungi and insects from the log/timber end-grain;
- reduces the wood’s splintering;
- allows even drying and thus reduces or prevents cracking of the wood at the fronts of the logs;
- is non-flammable;
- the drying time of the coating depends on the external conditions and takes on average 2 – 6 hours;
- Stipol – AF does not leak at high temperatures and does not crack at low temperatures;
- Stipol – AF is applied to wood with a brush or roller;
- Stipol – AF adheres well even to damp surfaces;
- 1 kg of Stipol – AF covers approx. 2 m2 of surface.

Preparation of materials, space and working conditions:
- Stipol – AF anti-cracking coating is most commonly used to protect the end grain of tree logs and sawn wood, both hardwood and softwood.
- No special protective equipment is required to work with Stipol – AF.
- The optimum amount of the product after two applications should be approx. 500 g/m2 of the end grain surface (1 kg of coating is sufficient to adequately protect 2 m2 of the wood surface), while for very demanding hardwoods (oak, walnut and chestnut) an increased application rate of approx. 700 g/m2 of the end grain surface is advised (1 kg of coating is sufficient to adequately protect approx. 1.5 m2 of the wood surface).
- The appropriate temperature for drying as well as for application of the coating is at least 5 degrees Celsius;
- Wash the tool immediately with water after work is finished.
- Stipol – AF should be stored in its original, tightly sealed packaging in a space with a minimum air temperature of 5 degrees Celsius.Stipol – AF must not freeze, as this renders it useless.
Application of Stipol – AF by coating (brush or roller):
- Stipol – AF should be mixed thoroughly before use; either by hand with a suitable tool or with an electric mixer at low speed (in the case of a very dense structure, up to 50 ml of water per 1 kg of Stipol – AF may be added to create a suitable lubricating structure of the coating when mixing
- The appropriate working air temperature shall be a minimum of 5 degrees Celsius.
- Apply the first coat of Stipol – AF to the dry or damp surface of the log/sawn timber end grain using a brush or a roller.
- The amount of coating to be applied on the first application should be approx. 300-400 g/m2 of the end grain.
- After application of the coating, drying shall take 2-6 hours (depending on the season and weather conditions) at temperatures above 5 degrees Celsius.
- After adequate drying, a second application of Stipol – AF shall be applied, at a rate of 200-300 g/m2 of the end grain.
- The final drying and curing time of Stipol AF is estimated at 12-24 hours.
