Product description

Silvalazur is an environmentally friendly, water-based, thin-layer coating used for the surface and decorative protection of wood. It enhances the water repellency of the wood and protects it from absorbing moisture, while allowing it to “breathe” or dry quickly after heavy precipitation. Silvalazur are most commonly used for surface protection of wooden products and structures such as windows, doors, garden and balcony railings, pergolas, garden furniture, beehives, children’s play structures etc.

Our stains are environmentally, human and animal friendly, so Silvalazur can also be used indoors and in confined spaces.

Silvalazur is available in different colour tones. It colours the wood to the desired tone and protects the surface against patination (greying), but does not cover the texture of the wood, thus preserving all its aesthetic value and warmth. Restoring the Silvalazur on wood that has already been protected with this coating is extremely simple, as it does not require sanding/removal of the old coating, gentle brushing is usually enough for removal of unbound material and dirt.

Show description

If Silvalazur is applied to wood that will be exposed to high humidity or precipitation, we recommend a pre-treatment with a primary wood preservative (Silvanolin® or Silvanol) or the use of Silvapro® thermally modified wood. Silvapro® thermally modified wood.

Show instructions for use

Preparation of materials, space and working conditions:

  • Only clean and healthy wood, free of decay or insect damage, must be used.
  • For wood that will be exposed to all weather conditions outdoors, Silvalazur is most effective as a systemic protection in combination with Silvanolin® primary wood preservative, and also works well on thermally modified Silvapro® wood.
  • In indoor areas, a systemic application with a prior application of Silvanol primary wood preservative is possible (if insect protection is desired), but it can also be used as a stand-alone decorative coating.
  • When applying Silvalazur, it is important that the wood elements or structures are mechanically finished, clean and adequately dry (wood moisture content below 15%).
  • The most common application processes for Silvalazur are coating with a brush and spraying (we do not normally use a dipping or moulding processes for applying wood paints, and application of wood paints with a roller is also less suitable as there is a possibility of leaving traces of the roller in the form of foam).
  • Silvalazur wood paints are used for surface and decorative protection of wooden surfaces of windows, doors, garden and balcony railings, pergolas, garden sets, beehives, children’s playground structures, etc.
  • The specified application rate of Silvalazur is 200-250 g/m2 of the wooden surface, which is usually achieved by two or three generous applications of the paint with a brush or spraying.
  • When using Silvalazur, no special protective equipment is required as the product is non-toxic, however, use of gloves is recommended to avoid .

Important:

  • Never dilute Silvalazur water-based stains with water or mix with other substances and preparations for protecting or staining wood, as this may significantly reduce its effectiveness and protective functionality.
  • The recommended working and drying temperature for coated wood is between 15 and 22 degrees Celsius.
  • We advise against staining in fog or in strong scorching sun (to avoid reducing the adhesion quality of the stain or drying too quickly) and therefore, at temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius, we suggest that the application and drying of coated wood elements should be carried out in a shaded, well-ventilated area.
  • Wash tools with water and detergent after work is finished.
  • Wood that has been previously coated with Silvanolin® or Silvanol wood preservative should be well dried before applying Silvalazur (the moisture content of the wood should not be more than 15% before the wood stain is applied).
  • Silvalazur should be stored in its tightly sealed original packaging.

Application procedure for Silvalazur by brush:

  1. The wooden elements to be painted shall first be placed on stands or surfaces provided for this purpose.
  2. The subfloor and floor shall be adequately protected with a waterproof material, e.g., PVC sheeting.
  3. Prior to the application of Silvalazur, the packaging units shall be well rotary shaken or stirred to ensure that the components are homogeneous or that there is no visible pigment deposit at the bottom of the packaging.
  4. Start applying the first coat of Silvalazur with a soft, dense and well-absorbing brush (ensure that the paint is applied evenly over the entire surface of the wooden element, while avoiding any dripping).
  5. Wait between 30 and 180 minutes (depending on the time of year and weather conditions) between applications to allow Silvalazur to soak into the wood and dry properly.
  6. To achieve a slightly glossy effect on the finished product, the already coated surface can be gently sanded before applying a second coat of paint.
  7. After the first coat of paint has been applied, a second coat of paint shall be applied evenly over all previously painted wood surfaces.
  8. When applying Silvalazur by coating, it is important to adjust the quantity of the product to the absorbency and workability of the wood surface (the prescribed amount of coating is 200-250 g/m2, which is usually achieved by two or three generous applications with a brush; in the case of poorer absorption, the number of applications should be increased accordingly).
  9. After the application of Silvalazur is completed, the painted wood surfaces are allowed to dry for approximately 24 hours to reach final dryness (depending on weather conditions, time of year and temperatures, method of application, etc.), and it is very important that:
    • the wood is not exposed to high humidity (fog) during the drying period,
    • temperatures are above 15 degrees Celsius,
    • the drying wood elements are not directly exposed to the sun,
    • at temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius, drying shall be arranged in a shaded and well-ventilated area, and
    • only when the coated wooden elements are fully dry, they can be exposed to the weather conditions.

The process of applying Silvalazur by spraying:

  1. The wood elements to be painted shall first be placed on stands or surfaces provided for this purpose.
  2. The subfloor and floor shall be adequately protected with a waterproof material, e.g., PVC sheeting.
  3. Before using Silvalazur, the packaging units shall be well rotary shaken or stirred to ensure that the components contained are homogeneous or that there is no visible pigment deposit on the bottom.
  4. Pour Silvalazur into the spraying device.
  5. In the next step the stain shall be applied by spraying with a device capable of reducing the blowing air to an optimum 2 bar. In the event of dripping due to over-spraying, a brush should be used for corrections.
  6. Wait between 30 and 180 min (depending on the time of year and weather conditions) between paint applications for Silvalazur to be properly absorbed into the wood and to dry.
  7. To achieve a slightly glossy effect on the finished product, the already coated surface can be gently sanded before applying a second coat of paint.
  8. After the first coat of paint, a second coat of paint shall be applied evenly by spraying over all previously painted wooden surfaces.
  9. When spraying Silvalazur, it is important to adjust the amount of the agent to the absorbency and finish of the wood surface (the specified uptake is 200-250 g/m2, which is usually achieved with two or three spray applications; in the case of poorer uptake, the number of applications should be increased accordingly).
  10. After the application of Silvalazur is completed, the painted wood surfaces are allowed to dry for approximately 24 hours to reach final dryness (depending on weather conditions, time of year and temperatures, method of application, etc.), and it is very important that:
    • the wood is not exposed to high humidity (fog) during the drying period,
    • temperatures are above 15 degrees Celsius,
    • the drying wood elements are not directly exposed to the sund.
    • at temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius, drying shall be arranged in a shaded and well-ventilated area, and
    • only when the coated wooden elements are fully dry, they can be exposed to the weather conditions.
