The Sečovlje Salt Pans are the largest salt pans in Slovenia. Together with the Strunjan Salt Pans, they are the northernmost salt pans in the Mediterranean and one of the last salt pans where salt is produced in the traditional way to preserve tradition and culture. At the same time, the Sečovlje Salt Pans are a wetland of international importance and a breeding ground for numerous birds.
The salt pans were declared a nature park and the Sečovlje Salt Pans Museum was awarded the Europa Nostra International Prize in 2003 by the European Union as an initiative for the preservation of cultural heritage.
Due to the strict requirements and conditions in the Sečovlje Salt Pans Nature Park, Silvaprodukt products were used to protect the wooden structure. We have used the wood preservative Silvanolin® and Silvacera®, a naturally sourced wax that increases the waterproofing of the wood tremendously. Both products are characterised by their exceptional friendliness to the environment and living beings.
